Terminal Operator

About the job

A terminal operator works at a port terminal in Terneuzen. The job gives you a lot of independence. You handle both technical and operational tasks, and you stay in regular contact with internal and external partners.

What you'll do

  • Loading and unloading tankers and road tankers
  • Doing administrative work connected to loading and unloading processes
  • Spotting and fixing first-line technical faults on your own
  • Setting up and operating PLC installations
  • Calculating water additions to UAN (a liquid fertiliser product)
  • Working with measuring equipment and assessing measurement results
  • Staying in contact with internal and external parties to keep the terminal installations running well
  • Carrying out cleaning, inspection and maintenance work on installations and the site
  • Making sure health, safety, quality and environmental rules are followed
  • Using personal protective equipment correctly

Working hours

You work a flexible shift schedule. Ship operations follow vessel arrival times, so flexibility is needed. Larger unloading operations run in shifts. Working at weekends is a regular part of this job.

What we ask

  • MBO 3 (Dutch vocational qualification at level 3) or equivalent shown through work experience
  • A background or experience in process technology, electrical engineering, logistics or inland shipping is preferred
  • Technical insight and knowledge of industrial installations
  • Good Dutch and English, both spoken and written
  • French is a plus
  • You hold, or are willing to obtain, the following certificates:
  • Havencertificaat (port certificate)
  • Heftruckcertificaat (forklift certificate)
  • Terminaltrekkercertificaat (terminal tractor certificate)
  • Hoogwerkercertificaat (working at height certificate)
  • BHV certificate (first aid and emergency response)
  • VCA (Dutch safety certificate for working in high-risk environments)
