Paving apprentice / Road worker

About the job

As a paving apprentice, you take part in road, ground, and water construction projects. You learn the trade from experienced colleagues while working on streets, pavements, squares, and cycle paths. It is physical work, outdoors, and you pick up new skills every day.

What you'll do

• Prepare the ground: marking out, digging, backfilling, compacting, and levelling.
• Work with modern machines such as plate compactors, surface saws, small excavators, and vacuum lifting devices.
• Lay streets, pavements, and squares using paving stones, slabs, and natural stone.
• Take part in a variety of projects, from residential areas to city centres and industrial sites.
• Work in a close team and learn from experienced specialists every day.

What we ask

• An interest in working with your hands and a willingness to learn.
• A category B driving licence, or willingness to get one.
• A VCA certificate (Dutch safety certificate for construction workers), or willingness to get one.
• Good physical fitness and willingness to work outside in all weather.
• Reliability, accuracy, and the ability to work in a team.

What we offer

• Pay from €2,500 to €3,500 per 4 weeks, depending on experience.
• A temporary contract with the prospect of a permanent position.
• Full time: 32 to 40 hours per week.
• Work clothing and personal protective equipment provided and paid for by the employer.
• Opportunities to grow into roles such as team leader or works planner.
• Paid training and the chance to earn additional certificates.
